The sun was setting in the horizon and the sight sent Rae into a another time and place. She thought of her past, of those days she would go out to watch the setting sun and gaze as the twilit sky came to life. This was back when life was simpler. A child lost in her own world and constantly moving from place to place not quite understanding why. She found comfort in the little things and she gained some measure of appreciation towards nature. At least she knew that it would always be a constant unlike the changing scenery the young girl had to endure. It would be years before Raine understood the 'why' of her travails across the continents but she would always cherish the simple memory ignited by such a beautiful scene that nature offered every single day.
She sat back against the wooden bench and gazed out as the lamps flickered into life casting a glorious yellow dim across the darkening park. This was a bit of heaven to her. A chance to just sit back and relax in a life and career that was becoming more and more hectic with each passing day. Oh she loved what she did but sometimes having a moment's peace did wonders for the soul especially in a place like this. Reverence Park was her happy place amidst the constant hustle and bustle of the city and moreover to the constant movement she underwent on a weekly basis. Heaven was an understatement but she sat and simply enjoyed the scene before her. She watched as couples traipsed along the park looking in love and very much happy. She watched as owners walked their dogs happily. And even watched as some children finished up their games for the day. Today was a good day for this and she would enjoy it as much as she could.
((I don't know if you guys would like to make this into an ongoing place but if you do then ladies and gentlemen we have a park!))

Emerald eyes peered through the shadows at the woman sitting on the bench. A Face from the past, a friend from days long lost. Many things had changed over the years. For one Katyana King was not the same person she had been when she had known the woman on the bench. She had at one time been quiet and nervous, always looking up to Rae because she was the opposite. But things had changed. She was no longer the quiet and meek person she had once been. Now she was something else, something new, and she was ready to reveal this to her old friend.
She moved from the shadow of the trees, her lithe body gliding silently towards the woman. She reached the bench and spoke in a musical voice, “It’s beautiful isn’t it? The way the suns dying rays caress the darkening sky. As if it’s trying to search for some kind of tether to keep it here. It’s making a last ditch effort to not be smothered by the horizon.” The entire time she spoke she looked out over the park, then she turned her cat like eyes on the woman sitting on the bench. They sparkled in the darkness but never wavered, it was almost as if she was trying to will the woman to remember who she was. But she knew it wasn’t such a long time ago that they knew each other.

Rae's reverie was broken by a melodious voice that reached her ears. She neither turned or spoke but instead watched as the final rays of the sun disappeared into the background of the twilight and even then she took her time in turning. She recognized the voice it was hard not to know who it belonged to. After a life of constant traveling it was rare to meet a friend, someone to hold onto, to share memories with but she had been lucky in finding one such soul. Her head turned slowly and she greeted the woman with a familiar, cheeky smile. A glow about her face as a smile drifted over her face.
"Stalking me are you Kitty?"

Kat stood for a moment or to caught by Rae's grin like a deer caught in headlights. She had forgotten how beautiful her friend had been. It was a natural beauty that Kat herself had envied. But she adored Rae all the same. She thought about her friends stark beauty as she sat down and lounged on the bench languidly. She gave Rae a brilliant smile and spoke once more, "Stalking you? I wouldn't say i'm stalking you exactly. More alike admiring you from afar before getting the courage to come over. Just like all those men who's heads you had turned when we were younger. Boy their faces were always priceless when you went by, Rae."

Kitty's comment amused Rae to no end. A smarmy smile crossed her lips and she could not help but roll her eyes. Kat had always been one to exaggerate her comments, much like she'd just done "Now that's a lie. I remember a few of those high school boys given you rather lusty looks don't even go there, Kitty Kat." She chuckled and shook her head. Kat had ever been the shy one, always thinking that she was never pretty enough, strong enough, determined enough and it was always pure rubbish to Rae which was why she'd always pushed her friend to do her very best at everything.
"I'm surprised that you found me here... Then again you're probably the only person who knows about my 'happy place'."

Kat laughed, it was whimsical and filled with amusement. She crossed her legs and kicked her foot a little, "You give me to much credit, Rae. We both know those guys only looked at me because you wouldn't give them the time of day. Although I can't say I didn't enjoy my fair share of them. It's the quiet ones you have to worry about." She smiled slyly and then shifted once more, pulling her knee up onto the bench so she could rest her head on it as she stared out at the stars that were appearing across the sky.
"I've always known where to find you, Rae. It's always been that way. It's almost as if I can share your thoughts. Even if I did know of this place. You could be in another part of the country and I could find you."

"Don't start that. Seriously. Let's not think so much about the past. We're here now. Two grown women out in the world causing havoc and mayhem and maybe of them is breaking some hearts. Of course not me so that job falls squarely on you." She laughed and watched as two dog owners walked passed with their golden retrievers. They were simply adorable and Raine contemplated about getting herself a puppy. "It's been awhile. I can't even count the months. How've you been? How's your job? I feel like such a horrible friend for not keeping in touch properly with you!" She sighed. Kat was the only person who knew her inside and out and hence she also knew the type of job that Rae held simply because she was trusted that much.

Kat tossed her hair over her shoulder and smiled, "But Rae, the Past is what makes us. We wouldn't have gotten here without it." She laughed and shook her head, "Breaking hearts? Not recently. But then again I've been away. I haven't had the time to break any hearts." She turned her head slightly to watch the dogs pass. She knew what Rae was thinking and couldn't resist making a comment, "Not a Retriever, Rae. You need a dog that can handle your line of work."
She cocked her head to the side a little and listened to Rae speak. She shrugged slightly, "I've been fine. I quit the last job and found a new one. Maybe not the most elegant of jobs but it's made me tougher. You have to be tough when you're a Mercenary for the Heroes." Kat thought for a moment on her line of work. On the many times she had been injured or hurt in some way during a fight. She thought of her training days when she had tried so hard to prove herself to be tough. IT had paid off. Especially with the help of Luke. She sighed momentarily and then smiled once more, "What about you? How's your life going? Your Job?"

"I think a Retriever is tough enough to handle my line of work, just have to train him like there's no tomorrow. But you're right. Besides I wonder if I'll even have time to tend him with how many times I'm shipped off." She sighed slightly before crossing her arms and glancing at Kitty from the corner of her eyes. "I know that the past represents to us. But sometimes some things are better left where they're at. Too many memories. Too much pain." Her face darkened a little while she spoke but it was soon replaced by one of those infamous smiles of hers.
"You should stop quitting your jobs so much. I know they're not perfect but..." She leaned in to whisper to her. "...they are your covers." She pulled back again. "Life's been busy as ever. Going to join up with Mejia again for another training exercise but I have to admit of being a little wary of it. I can't quite place it but something doesn't feel right about this. Still, training is training and I need to get as much of it in as I can. You should really think about joining us one of these days. You know how Mejia likes you so damn much." She winked. "I could definitely set up something for you both." She nudged her playfully.
